The Jameel Fund provides awards of up to USD 65,000 for short-term, high-impact projects at Imperial College London and King Abdulaziz University (KAU) that advance our ability to understand, prevent, diagnose, and treat coronaviruses and other infectious diseases.
Established in 2021 at Imperial College London and KAU by Community Jameel and Community Jameel Saudi Arabia, the Jameel Fund also seeks to strengthen research collaborations between Imperial and Saudi universities in this field.
The first round of funding, in 2021, supported projects focused on the transmission of coronaviruses - including SARS-CoV-2 (which causes COVID-19), SARS and MERS - and also the pathogenesis of these diseases, or how they develop.
The second round, in 2022, expanded the scope to include other respiratory diseases as well as coronaviruses.
Imperial College London and KAU manage the call for proposals and award process through a joint committee, and awards are limited to faculty researchers at those institutions.
