A better way to make development projects work

Gabriella Carolini, a principal investigator at the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) and associate professor of urban planning and international development at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, emphasises in her book that equitable partnership on the ground delivers the best results in the Global South. After years of field research in Mozambique, Carolini argues that the best development projects involve close cooperation between proximate peers: the sharing of information among partners, a consistent presence on the ground, non-hierarchical governance and a drive towards 'equity', in many forms, as a key project goal.
