Écoles pionnières : Les enseignants ont démontré l’efficacité des nouvelles méthodes pédagogiques
The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) will partner in an evaluation of the impacts of education recovery efforts in Morocco over the course of the 2023-2024 school year. Pioneer schools are applying a model based on the Teaching at The Right Level (TaRL) method, to address severe gaps in fundamental knowledge, as shown in a survey of 300,000 students. Early assessments of the programme suggest a significant positive impact on mathematics skills and reading levels.
Thanks to the mobilization of teachers and teaching teams within the pioneer schools, the first impact evaluation of the remediation program reveals that the majority of them, from the 2nd to the 6th year of primary school, display, in the skills evaluated, mastery rates multiplied by 4 in mathematics, by 3 in French and by 2 in Arabic, which corresponds to a catch-up of 1 to 2 years of schooling in the fundamentals of the subjects concerned, in just two months, underlines the ministry in a press release.
At the start of the pioneering schools project, a student positioning test was carried out by teachers, on September 7, 8 and 9, 2023, in all the establishments concerned, with 300,000 students, recalls the same source, noting that the Data was entered on the Massar platform and its reliability confirmed by random checks carried out by 160 inspectors.
The test carried out focuses on fundamental knowledge, namely mastery of reading and basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). This fundamental knowledge is the essential condition for academic success in secondary and higher education.
