Indian cities witness a growing momentum for climate action

Shruti Narayan from the Jameel C40 Urban Planning Climate Labs team speaks with Mongabay about the local-led nature of Climate Action Plans (CAPs) emerging from a number of cities in India. These include Chennai’s CAP, which is being developed with support from J-PAL and the Jameel C40 Urban Planning Climate Lab there.

Shruti says: “The city is delivering and owning this, and that’s part of the requirement of our leadership standards. The city has to ensure that this is going to regularly update its climate action plans, also put in place monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems so that they are continuously and consistently able to track their development.”
