The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) MENA and Egypt Impact Lab conducted an impact evaluation of Egypt's national programme for early childhood development.
Maha Murad, vice dean of the College of Business Administration at the American University in Cairo (AUC), says, "This collaboration is an excellent example of working to achieve this goal. Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, witnessed the signing of a six-party memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, the Egyptian Food Bank, UNICEF, Orascom Construction, and the American University in Cairo, to implement the project “Increasing children’s enrollment in nurseries” under the umbrella of the program Early Childhood Development at the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
The meeting was attended by Engineer Nora Selim, Executive Director of the Sawiris Foundation, Professor Mohsen Sarhan, Executive Director of the Egyptian Food Bank, Dr. Maha Mourad, Vice Dean of the College of Business Administration at the American University in Cairo, Professor Heba Iskandar, Head of the Development Sector at Orascom Construction, and Selena Bayraktarevic, President of Department of Child Life Sustainment and Development at UNICEF Egypt.
The “Increasing Children’s Enrollment in Nurseries” project is an embodiment of the state’s direction and Egypt’s Vision 2030, which includes providing health, educational and cultural services to children under the age of 4, to increase children’s enrollment in nurseries, which entails increasing the number of nurseries, especially in rural and remote areas.
