Atelier Jameel, a collective of traditional craft designers and artisans dedicated to providing artistic and technical opportunities to graduates of the Jameel Houses of Traditional Arts in Cairo, Jeddah and Scotland, opens its 2024 winter exhibition and sale on 5 December at 6pm at the Institut français d'archéologie orientale in Mounira, Cairo.

Running until 8 December, the exhibition features more than 200 works of jewellery, furnishings, interior decoration and winter seasonal gifts by participating artists, designers and craftspeople, including more than 30 alumni of the Jameel House in Cairo.

Contemporary works of art and design will be available to buy, with each piece offering a glimpse into the history and heritage of Islamic arts. The exhibition, entitled ‘Reviving traditional craftsmanship and celebrating innovating’, is free and open to all.

Cléa Daridan, head of arts and culture at Community Jameel, said: “Hosted by the Institut français d'archéologie orientale, the Atelier Jameel winter exhibition will showcase a fantastic range of meticulously designed products by graduates of the Jameel House in Cairo, combining innovation and exquisite craftsmanship.”

Atelier Jameel reflects Community Jameel’s commitment to preserving traditional arts and empowering young artists and craftspeople. Earlier this year, Community Jameel and The King’s Foundation announced plans to launch the Jameel House of World Traditional Arts in Scotland, a new global centre for international artisans, craftspeople and students to learn and practise the traditional arts.

Details about the Atelier Jameel winter exhibition are available on the Community Jameel website.
