Africa Climate Summit 2023: Investing in South-led science and innovation for a just and equitable climate finance framework

Synopsis

At the inaugural Africa Climate Summit, HE Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin, George Richards and Professor Laurence Tubiana will be convening a high-level private meeting to bring together decision-makers to discuss how we can build a more just and equitable climate finance system.

Despite the interest of multilateral development banks and the private sector to increase climate financing towards low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), frequently cited obstacles are the lack of investable projects in LMICs, and the perceived risk of investing in many LMICs.

The convening will highlight the importance of science-based, evidence-informed climate projects and policy programmes, and present actionable opportunities for investment in science and innovation in LMICs - opening the pathway for more innovative, climate-positive investment opportunities in LMICs, and a more just and equitable framework for climate finance.
